Homemade Rosemary Potato Chips

IMG_2674.JPG

I’d wanted to try making my own chips for a while.  The biggest issue, as I see it, is keeping the slices uniform enough so that you don’t overcook some while undercooking others.  Otherwise, they were delicious and fun to make!

Sweet Potato Gnocchi in Sage Brown Butter Sauce

This recipe might be better suited to October than March, but I am crazy go-nuts about gnocchi and wanted to try something a little different. This sweet potato gnocchi is marginally healthier than regular potato gnocchi, but don’t worry; the golden sauce is essentially just butter and a few stalwart sage leaves and is reassuringly bad for you.

Gambas al Ajillo

My friend Jenn recently hosted her birthday dinner at the tapas restaurant Pipa in New York, an Iberian yum-fest that shares elbow room with interior decorator ABC Carpet & Home, who provides romantic decor (and cleverly secures additional promo space) by furnishing the restaurant with a myriad of gorgeous mirrors and chandeliers.

Everything on the tasting menu was delicious, but the Gambas al Ajillo (Shrimp in Garlic) were particularly toothsome. I’d been craving them for a few weeks, and when a few friends gathered together for dinner, we thought it would be a great dish to try out.  I looked at quite a few recipes, some of which used additional ingredients other than those included here (such as sherry or cognac, paprika, and lemon), but being something of a culinary minimalist (read: lazy), I elected to break it down to its fundamental elements.

Tuscan Bean Salad

Welcome to our new contributor, Lena! Although she describes herself as a “chef of very modest talents,” Lena enjoys nothing so much as volunteering for the role of culinary guinea pig and is even willing to help with the dishes for the privilege [Editor's Note: We look for humble people to contribute to Eat With Me, but this is a massive understatement].  An enthusiastic composer of GChat status one-liners, she also enjoys writing about her gastronomic experiences living in New York City.

Every year at about this time, I find myself looking out and realizing that the sky, the Hudson, the West Side Highway, and the roof of the construction trailers outside my building are all essentially the same color.  Even as Punxsutawney Phil is poking his furry little mug out of his hiding hole, I’m diving back into mine and seriously deliberating the feasibility of pulling the covers back over my head and hitting snooze repeatedly until June.  Still, a girl’s got to eat, mid-winter doldrums or no, so I’ll inevitably don my fuzzy bathrobe and set about throwing something together for lunch.
