Ever since I was little, I have loved mac and cheese. When I was around 6 or 7, I learned how to make the stuff in a box by myself (with supervision, of course). My parents tell me that I really loved Kraft, but the cheaper the better. The more neon orange the better, 6-year-old Catie must have thought. Now that I am older I have expanded my tastes to Annie’s Organic for the boxed deliciousness, as well as homemade (I can experiment with different cheeses!) and gourmet mac and cheese that costs $10 to $15 at the classy Boston restaurants. However I still have a soft spot in my heart for Kraft.

Happy Friday everyone! At Eat With Me, we love chefs of all kinds. One chef has caught our eye recently, not for her great skill or beautiful presentation, but for her hilarious, drunken webisodes of My Drunk Kitchen. Hannah Harto brings late night sobering snacks (and brunch standards) to a new level that could be classified as stunt cooking. In any case, she’s hilarious, charming and only a little dangerous.

We’ve been eating a lot of incredible food lately. By we, I mostly mean me, but most of the Eat With Me staff would agree that this spring has brought some great meals. Check out these photos for some dinner inspiration or just some drool time.

When I see some bananas covered in brown spots, I don’t think “ewwww.” I see an opportunity. My mom has the same motivation and always makes the most delicious banana bread. This weekend, celebrate this beautiful Boston weather and Mother’s Day with some delicious banana bread from scratch!
I didn’t have a recipe for banana bread on hand— that’s a lie, I just like making up my own recipes— so I looked online for an easy recipe. I found one that got mixed reviews on AllRecipes.com and made up my own recipe from the base of that one. Am I a baking nerd? Perhaps, but it has delicious results.

This can hardly be a real burger review since the Burger Tours group has eaten at Mr. Bartley’s in Harvard several times over the years, and it has made a little place in our hearts not because it’s the best burger, but because it’s consistently just what we want. Mr. Bartley’s is moving on to its third generation of ownership, and hopefully it will continue on. If you haven’t been here yet, you either don’t live here or you’re seriously missing out on a Cambridge classic.

Heading out to Brigham Circle in February for burgers was quite a trip for eight mostly Cambridge-dwelling burger lovers, but Burger Tours is about the burger and we will go great lengths to try a promising burger. The Savant Project intrigued us because of it’s locavore practices (like using Iggy’s Bread, a Cambridge bakery), and mixed reviews on Yelp. Plus we had a Groupon, so away we ordered.

When I heard about the Second Glass Wine Riot, I wasn’t totally sure what to expect. A convention-type room packed with vendors offering tastings of 250 wines from all over the world sounded intimidating, especially for someone like me who enjoys wine but also gives nicknames to favorites like Sauv Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc) and Cab Sauv (Cabernet Sauvignon). I managed to convince my friend and fellow Eat With Me contributor Keiko to join me in this wine-laden journey, and so we wine-novices purchased our $60 tickets, headed to downtown Boston and entered the Castle of Wine.

This past weekend, my roommates and I made way too much spaghetti for a house dinner (about 3 pounds) and have been trying to find ways to make new dishes so it won’t go to waste. I also had some broccoli and veggie sausage that needed to be eaten, so tonight I made a very simple, delicious meal of roast broccoli, (veggie) sausage, and the leftover whole wheat pasta. I remembered a more complicated, but equally satisfying meal from House Beautiful Magazine that included shrimp instead of sausage; I simplified the recipe and was able to make it in less than 30 minutes with ingredients I had on hand. Red wine with the pasta and strawberries with Nutella for dessert made for a serious food heaven/coma and I highly recommend that combo.
