This post is by Eat With Me founder Matt. Located at 1395 Washington Street, The Gallows restaurant is planted in the middle of one of my favorite foodie blocks in Boston’s South End – that’s quite a distinction in a very delicious part of town. Just doors down from Morse Fish Company, my go-to spot [...]

Probiotics. Lactobacillus acidophilus. Lactobacillus bifidus. Snuffaluffagus. What happened to yogurt just being yogurt, and eating it because it tastes good? Sometimes I try to force myself to eat the stuff with fruit or granola for breakfast, but something about cold wet mush first thing in the morning makes me want to vom dot com.

When I was growing up, my parents never made Chicken Kiev. We were raised on buckwheat and kotletkas*, which are the Russian equivalents of rice and beans or pasta and meat loaf. You therefore might understand my amazement when I saw a dish like the Kiev that came both coated in bread and stuffed with spiced buttery deliciousness.

Heading out to Brigham Circle in February for burgers was quite a trip for eight mostly Cambridge-dwelling burger lovers, but Burger Tours is about the burger and we will go great lengths to try a promising burger. The Savant Project intrigued us because of it’s locavore practices (like using Iggy’s Bread, a Cambridge bakery), and mixed reviews on Yelp. Plus we had a Groupon, so away we ordered.

Longing to get some sushi? Next time, have a little more wasabi! Wasabi has been grown in the fertile mountain valleys and consumed in Japan for hundreds of years. Yes, this means longer than your local sushi restaurant! As much as I hate that feeling of eating too much of it in one bite, I like to think of it as an opportunity to stock up on some important vitamins. Try out this recipe for Wasabi Dip to spice things up!

I’ve been on a bit of a bread roll (HA! sorry, that was cheap.) as of late, mainly inspired by a book that was given to me, The Bread Baker’s Apprentice. It’s a pretty spectacularly comprehensive book, for anyone out there who’s looking to start baking bread at home. It can, however, at times be a bit too comprehensive, to the point of exhausting. Which is why I turn, as I often do, back to the blogosphere (to the detriment of the printed word, unfortunately). Web content is just so accessible and amorphous in a way that can be beneficial to the cook with a curious, rambling mind.

When I heard about the Second Glass Wine Riot, I wasn’t totally sure what to expect. A convention-type room packed with vendors offering tastings of 250 wines from all over the world sounded intimidating, especially for someone like me who enjoys wine but also gives nicknames to favorites like Sauv Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc) and Cab Sauv (Cabernet Sauvignon). I managed to convince my friend and fellow Eat With Me contributor Keiko to join me in this wine-laden journey, and so we wine-novices purchased our $60 tickets, headed to downtown Boston and entered the Castle of Wine.

The social aspect of living in and around Boston is often defined by where the T (subway) stops; main hubs like Porter Square, Harvard Square, and Davis Square get the lion’s share of the traffic and attention. But the smaller squares in between, like Union Square in Somerville, also have their own set of charms.

This past weekend, my roommates and I made way too much spaghetti for a house dinner (about 3 pounds) and have been trying to find ways to make new dishes so it won’t go to waste. I also had some broccoli and veggie sausage that needed to be eaten, so tonight I made a very simple, delicious meal of roast broccoli, (veggie) sausage, and the leftover whole wheat pasta. I remembered a more complicated, but equally satisfying meal from House Beautiful Magazine that included shrimp instead of sausage; I simplified the recipe and was able to make it in less than 30 minutes with ingredients I had on hand. Red wine with the pasta and strawberries with Nutella for dessert made for a serious food heaven/coma and I highly recommend that combo.
